Welcome to the Village Of Breckenridge

The Village of Breckenridge, the fourth largest community in Gratiot County is located along M-46, in the Central Michigan area. The Village was incorporated in 1908. Breckenridge has a population of 1339 residents. It is in the heartland of one of the finest agricultural counties in Michigan.
Area farmers grow fields of corn, sugar beets, soybeans, peppers, cucumbers, wheat, rye, oats, hay and a variety of edible beans. Beef cattle, dairy cattle and hogs are raised in the area.
Breckenridge has a large agricultural elevator for crop storage and processing. Two banking institutions, with complete banking services, serve the local community. Other available services include a dentist, medical clinic, bar/restaurant, family restaurant, grocery store, convenience stores, gas stations, a craft shop, a barber shop, tanning parlor, two insurance agencies, an upholstery shop, two historical museum buildings, pizza parlor, video store, tire store, car wash, a propane gas dealership, fuel oil supplier, a weekly buyers guide and print shop.
Additional services are available in adjoining communities, seven miles to the east and west of the Village. Breckenridge’s location along M-46, offers easy access to Midland, Bay City and Saginaw. Highway U.S.-27 is less than 6 minutes west of Breckenridge and leads to Mt. Pleasant and other northern sites. To the south residents can travel to St. Johns, Lansing and beyond. Most of these neighboring municipalities are located only 25 to 45 minutes away. They provide extra shopping convenience, arts, entertainment, and sports activities.
Services available in the Village are numerous. The services include four public parks, seven ball fields, a nine-hole golf course and a fitness center. Other available services are: a modern soft water and sewage waste disposal system, trash pickup, curbside recycling and newspaper recycling. Safety services available are a modern efficient fire department, a rescue service, 911 dispatch and a local police department.
The Breckenridge School system ranks as the best in Gratiot County. The high school, middle school and the elementary school are all North Central Association accredited. The District operates on an annual $8 million budget. A wide range of educational experiences and opportunities for students within a well-rounded core-curriculum are offered. The District has top quality up-to-date computer technology. A modern innovative vocational education program is offered. The school offers multiple scholarships to qualifying graduates each year. The middle and elementary schools have recently been modernized and large physical expansions were completed.
Many post high school educational institutions are available within forty minutes of Breckenridge, including, Alma College, Central Michigan University, Michigan State University, Saginaw Valley State University, Baker College, Davenport College, Delta College, Mid-Michigan Community College, Montcalm Community College and various vocational institutions.
Several events, service clubs and volunteer organizations include: Scouts, Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Little League Baseball, Rocket (youth) Football, youth programs, Community Education, Alternative Education Program, Historical Society, Future Farmers of America, Business Professionals Association, a Fall Festival and excellent school sports activities.
Thirteen different church bodies exist including Congregational, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Roman Catholic, United Brethren and other denominations; all within a five to seven mile radius.
A 400 acre Michigan Tax Free Renaissance Sub-Zone sanctioned by the State of Michigan to encourage business development is located east of the Village along highway M-46.
Job opportunities are easily accessible through major highways. Highways M-46 and U.S.-27 allow access to a multitude of job opportunities locally in St. Louis, Alma and Ithaca. Saginaw, Mt. Pleasant, Edmore, St. Johns, Midland, Lansing, and Bay City, all located with fifty miles, offer numerous job opportunities. Many levels of job opportunities are available within Gratiot County.
